Roses My Dear

2/15/2012

Our church Valentine's Day dinner program was Sunday.  There were about 150 people in attendance.  We had a great time visiting with one another and eating a nice ham and chicken buffet dinner.  Our entertainment for the night was some of our loyal choir members.  With a few props such as Army hats or Afro wigs they chronicled many different song stylings.  They sang songs from the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s.  Hilarious!

From the Andrew Sisters, Cass Elliot to Hee Haw, the music was incredible.  The Master of  Ceramonies wore Walter's tuxedo including the red bow-tie and cummerbund.  He was so handsome.  When I hugged him I told him he reminded me of my husband when he was a little younger.

The tables were decorated with dozens of red roses, my favorite flower.  During the course of the evening, 15 names were drawn for the centerpieces.  We were lucky enough to win one of the centerpieces.  Walter had already bought one rose for me.  The single roses were sold as a fund raiser for the church mission trip to Haiti planned for March.

So winning the centerpiece gave us 13 roses.  I was delighted.  So pretty!

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone.

Jean, Edd and Elizabeth went to Knoxville for the day.  They went to a place called Befitting where she was able to get another prosthesis and some underclothes.  For the rest of the day they planned a nice  buffet and if all were up to it, some side stops to antique malls on the way home.

Laughing Your Wig Off...

2/8/12

I spoke to Jean yesterday.  She has been suffering with a head cold for almost a week now.  Edd has been watching over her faithfully.  The doctors have told them to use over-the-counter drugs to help her weather through it.  They were counciled that if fever appeared, she was to come in immediately to be checked out.

They are using Tylenol for her headaches and both Dayquil and Nyquil for the cold symptoms.  She is coughing a lot.  So after so many days, they went back to the doctor.  He prescribed antibodies and a codine laced cough syrup.  She said the coughing has lessened after only one day on the medicine.  Hurray!

Other side effects were her tongue had white spots on it and she has stopped being able to enjoy spicy food.  It is hard for her to eat most food.  Additionally her nails had black spots on them.  She had been told that might happen so she was not surprised when she experienced them.

I talked mostly to Edd.  He gave me all the details of the last few days.  Jean came onto the phone and I asked her if she had coughed her wig off.  Somehow she didn't find that funny.  AGH!

She is usually the first one to make light of her lot or tell a joke.  Today was different.  She didn't feel like hearing a joke from me.

Please get well, dear sister.  I love you.

My Family Likes to Eat

After Christmas Walter & I were fortunate enough to get to travel to Hanover, PA and Alexandra, VA to visit Walter's brother and his family.

Here we are at the table in Miller's Restaurant in Lancaster, PA enjoying the simply delicious lunch buffet.  They specialize in Amish dishes.  Boy, oh boy were they good!  We filled up on salads and soups.  Walter's nephew John-Philip, second from left, was singing at the America Music Theatre that afternoon.

He did a wonderful job, as did all the cast.  Because we were his family, we got to meet the entire cast after the performance.  One cast member graduated from Middle Tennessee State University, the school where I earned my BS also.

For New Year's Eve we traveled to Washington, DC and on to Alexandria, VA to visit with Walter's other nephew and his family.  You have seen Oliver on my blog before.  See how much he has grown since the summer.  He just turned one a few days before this picture was made.

He was so good opening all his presents!  And what a good eater, too!

We had a traditional Norwegian Christmas Eve dinner.  All kinds of pork products cut a certain way, (shipped in by a butcher in Florida), pork sausages, stewed potatoes and more.

Delicious.
